Using AI & Clinical Knowledge to Find Missed Lung & Ovarian Cancer Patients

5:15 - 6:15PM CET February 26th, 2024, Cocktail & Poster Display Session, Paris, France

Venue: Hall Bordeaux, Palais des Congrès, Paris, France

Despite being accurately diagnosed by clinicians, many cancer patients are not sent for genetic screening. This is largely because many patient records have incorrect or incomplete International Classification of Disease (ICD) codes, and are therefore missed for screening, therapies and clinical trials when clinicians search based on ICD codes. The results of this study demonstrate how through combining clinical guidelines and artificial intelligence (AI) 31% more lung cancer patients and 44% more ovarian cancer patients who were miscoded were found, who otherwise would have been missed if ICD code searches had been used.
