Medicine & AI to Improve Outcomes by Discovering Untreated Patients

3:10 - 4:00PM CEST, June 17th 2024, DBT Partner Programming- AI in the NHS, Amsterdam, NL

Session & Track: Partner Programming – DBT – AI in the NHS – changing the game

Venue: RAI Amsterdam Convention Centre, Amsterdam, NL

Currently, up to 90% of patients across 7,000 conditions are untreated (undiagnosed, misdiagnosed, miscoded, uncontrolled, at-risk). For example, cachexia (muscle wasting disease) is estimated to impact over 90% of cancer patients and result in 20% of casualties, however, over 50% of these patients are currently untreated. Through the application of AI based on clinical guidelines, NHS oncosurgeons demonstrated to find 6 times more untreated cachectic cancer patients compared to metadata and pre-emptive NLP approaches. The discovery of these untreated patients is leading to improved outcomes, halving treatment costs, improve resource optimisation and ensuring that patients are on guideline concordant therapies or trials.
