The Role

As Product Engineer you will join Pangaea’s team to design and develop integrated applications for its product platform. 

This is a broad role, which will continue to evolve as the business grows, but in the short term it will involve development of the software product and collaboration with the clinical and scientific team. A strong software engineering background and knowledge in AI, especially Machine Learning and Natural Language Processing, is essential.

Key technical responsibilities will include:

  • Designing and developing new features for the existing product based on user feedback and needs.
  • Productizing, evaluating, and testing the AI technology and other novel methodologies.
  • Maximizing value to the end user while minimizing technical complexity.
  • Prioritizing tasks during bi-weekly sprint planning to ensure regular delivery of ongoing product improvements, including both minor updates and big feature releases. 
  • Developing User Experience (UX) strategies for ongoing monitoring and collecting user feedback.
  • Developing tools to accelerate internal development and analysis.

This role will also involve working closely with internal teams (sales and marketing, operations, clinicians, scientists) to:

  • Understanding customer and clinical challenges and pain points.
  • Clearly communicating the product roadmap and changes prior to launch.
  • Leading internal feedback rounds before launching to users. 
  • Improving internal tolling for better usability.

Mandatory Requirements

Personal traits:

  • A strong intuition for what makes products a joy to use.
  • Ability to communicate complex ideas effectively, both verbally and written. 
  • Ability to engage all levels of the company and the customers’ organizations.
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment.

​Technical skills:

  • Experience working on large-scale, commercial software development projects.
  • University qualification (Bachelors, Masters, Doctorate) with at least 3 years of university study in Computer Science, Informatics, Engineering, or related.
  • Prior work experience in AI, Machine learning, Natural Language Processing, Algorithmic Foundations of Optimization, Data Science, Data Mining and/or Bioinformatics.
  • Prior experience working with healthcare applications and healthcare data.
  • Experience working with REST API, databases (MongoDB and SQL) and web development.
  • Familiarity with Linux and Git.
  • Familiarity with cloud platforms, such as Microsoft Azure, AWS, Google Cloud Platform.
  • Proficiency on general programming languages: Python, C++ and Java.
  • Experience (classroom/work) with testing and tools for testing.
  • A strong software engineering background with AI expertise to understand how the end user facing product will tie into backend and architectural decisions. ​

Nice to Have

  • Experience with research communities and/or efforts, including having published papers (being listed as author) at AI/ML/NLP/CV conferences (e.g. Bio-IT, NeuraIPS, ICML, ICLR, ACL, CVPR and KDD) and journals.
  • Experience and knowledge of deploying AI and Data solutions for healthcare and pharmaceuticals at scale is desirable.
