Early Detection of Cancer Cachexia Using Guideline-based AI

Learn how, in collaboration with NHS Lothian, Pangaea’s AI platform was configured on four cachexia guidelines (Fearon, Evans, GLIM and mGPS criteria) and demonstrated to outperform ICD coding, keyword-based NLP and baseline LLM prompting, achieving 96.4% precision for identifying patients with documented cancer cachexia, while achieving 100% sensitivity. Pangaea’s platformI also identified 104 potentially undiagnosed cases among 200 patients screened.
The results demonstrate how guideline-configured AI can move beyond conventional searches and generic LLM prompting to uncover clinically important signals hidden across structured and unstructured patient records, supporting earlier detection and intervention at the point of care.
