Operation-Mechanism Alignment for Reliable Clinical Reasoning over EHRs
Pangaea has been selected to present its paper,”Operation-Mechanism Alignment for Reliable Large Language Model Reasoning over Electronic Health Records” at the BioNLP Workshop during the prestigious Annual Meeting of the Association for Computational Linguistics (ACL).
The paper introduces Pangaea’s novel large language models (LLM) framework for AI-driven clinical reasoning over electronic health records (EHRs). Rather than relying on a single AI process to interpret complex patient data against clinical guidelines, the framework breaks clinical reasoning into specialized tasks — including interpreting clinical notes, analyzing numerical data, understanding timelines, and applying medical guidelines. Each task is assigned to the computational method best suited for that type of reasoning, improving both accuracy and transparency.
In evaluations across six clinician-reviewed clinical decision tasks, the framework outperformed several widely used LLM approaches. The results demonstrate a promising new direction for developing more reliable, explainable, and trustworthy agentic AI systems for healthcare.
